Kate Sargent

My name is Kate Sargent and I have recently joined the school as a co-opted governor. I started my career in Human Resources, however I have now been working as a teacher in a range of primary schools in Manchester and the Stockport area for 26 years and have experience of teaching children from 5 to 13 in both the state and independent sectors. As a teacher, and as a Curriculum Manager for several years, I have always been committed to the need for children to receive a solid grounding in the literacy and numeracy skills they are all entitled to develop in their primary years.

A keen reader myself, I have always sought to promote a love of reading amongst children, both for the pleasure and knowledge reading can bring in itself, and to help them develop this key skill that will support them in all other areas of education. I have to date written and published two children’s novels and hope to support the school in maintaining its attractive library and range of reading activities to encourage Ladybridge children to read regularly I have also, however, always been convinced of the importance of offering all children a broad curriculum with opportunities to develop skills and hopefully lifelong interests in other areas of learning, including music, sport, history and art, that will enrich their childhoods and may lead to interests and careers in the future. As a governor on the school’s Teaching and Learning Committee, I aim to support the school in the continued development of its broad curriculum
